If you could start over is there any one thing you would do differently?

A collection of water bottles in the corner of our guesthouse room.

Two things quickly come to mind.

1. I would’ve bought a Steripen before leaving the US. They are these super cool little devices that sterilize water (or other liquids) using ultraviolet light. They are awesome and extremely hard to find in these parts. I’m definitely going to get my hands on one though. The amount of plastic water bottles that we’ve gone through is embarrassing!

2. I would’ve started taking probiotics before leaving home and continued throughout our trip. I have a feeling that would’ve helped me to combat the occasional traveler’s diarrhea that I’ve experienced (I know, gross! But it’s simply part of it). I’ve taken several rounds of antibiotics during the last year which I certainly do not advocate. I’m currently loading up on probiotics and will continue on this regiment going forward.

Thank you, Mr. Schiel and Mamaw. – Ashlie

Just a known tip for anyone who travels or eats out a lot. Buy a bottle of OREGANO gel caps at your local health food store or on line - a good brand and take 1 a day when on the road. NO parasites can live in liquid oregano, period. There was a time in my life when I ate out all the time and took 1 oregano gel cap a day - never got sick from anything.

Ashlie, I'm glad I came across this post! Very good tips for when I start planning my travels. I never would have thought to take probiotics, but I can imagine just how important they would be. Marissa
